Annie Eckmann handles multimedia environmental compliance as well as permitting for ONE Environmental’s Richmond office with onsite work that includes clients from New York to Georgia. For the last six years, Annie worked at Deyo and Associates, LLC, an environmental consulting firm that ONE acquired in June 2023.

Annie was part of a small staff at Deyo and Associates and is grateful to have a full team around her at ONE. “I like the team environment,” she says. “I’m used to doing a lot of things on my own and taking care of things by myself. Now I have an entire network of support.”

Annie grew up planning to be a veterinarian, but two years into college at Christopher Newport University (CNU), she changed her mind and her major. A family vacation to Chautauqua, New York, left a lasting impression after she heard a National Geographic photographer speak about the environmental threats to the ocean and water.

“He talked about some of the issues he saw firsthand and what we need to do to fix them,”’ she says. “That changed my focus to environmental science.”

The Richmond native earned both her graduate and undergraduate degrees at CNU and holds an EPA Method 9 certification. In college she alternated between skipper and crew as a member of the varsity sailing team. “It was so much fun; it was therapy,” she says.  “A day out on the water after a morning of class is the best therapy. It still is.” Annie particularly enjoys sailing in Hampton, where the James, Elizabeth and Hampton rivers converge. She also recently joined a recreational softball team and plays second base. Her favorite companions are her black Labrador, Minnie, and her kitty, Little Miss.
